Today being a special day for every Indian I decided to write something on this site after a very long time. I stopped writing simply because I was sick of feeling pathetic about my country and my city’s condition. We are being administered by hooligans and goons and the frustration has made me realise that not much can be done but that is not why I am writing . I am writing because I want to share something I felt after watching a program on NDTV about the Leh devastation.

It was really sad and tragic what has happened there and its worse that we Indians have become so immune to constantly learning about tragedies that it has stopped bothering us. The program showed two distinct aspects of the rescue efforts. One was being undertaken by as usual the army. I really salute the army for being India's one and only disciplined body that actually functions. Ofcourse there is corruption there as well without a doubt but if it was half as inefficient as our politicians or police force I dont know what would have happened (we probably would have been another Pakistan).

The other very unique aspect was the scores of foreigners who have volunteered to stay on and help. It was a heart warming scene to see hundreds of foreigners, doctors,engineers and even musicians (yes they held a concert to raise fund and make people feel better) getting together and helping out without asking for anything in return. Their usual response should have been "LETS GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" instead they are getting together every morning in hundres in front of the local administration offices and asking what they can do and they ARE making a change. So thank you Indian army and thank you guests we appreciate you being there.

Jai Hind and I hope I will one day see an India that will not frustrate my blood to a boil.

Demise of the common man PDF Print E-mail

What is THE purpose of our lives...each one has a different one attached to themselves. And IF we havent found one then we strive to find it to make our lives more meaningful.
And here I am ...not trying to describe the purpose of my life as I havent found one, but to get an answer to my questions from people who have one and have made it their goal to work on it.
Yesterday was a Sunday evening and I was driving back home from Delhi to Gurgaon at a decent speed , things were getting dark and like always Gurgaon roads were pitched with darkness , the electricity poles only to fashionably ornament the streets...sure must not have ever shone in their own glow. And so were the streets , devoid of any light except from the cars. I wanted to get back home as the empty unlit roads do not appeal to me and there always is fear lurking around. I am at a speed of maybe 50KMPH and suddenly a dog springs up from nowhere and dashes to the other side of the road impervious to the vehicles plying on the road. I steer my wheel to the other side which is the left, thinking it will make its way to the other side where there wasnt any car at the moment. Suddenly like a dog possessed he stops in his track and reverts back at full throttle. I swear to myself and brake and swerve to avoid him and I neatly do as I had already slowed down a bit previously but to the dogs peril the car behind me did not see him making a return and the dog got hit by the car. "Oh Shit", OMG were the first words out of my mouth and I stopped my car something which I would never have done on an unlit deserted street , this was coz I remembered a dear friend who is passionate bout dogs always wanting me to do that and also My conscience would not allow me to just be done with the situation. I parked my car on the side and to my relief also saw the other car stop with the drivers face in disbelief , anxious and worried. And to add to my woes she too was a woman driving alone. Both of us looked at the dog...and breathed out loud Thank God! It isnt dead ! She profusely began to explain to me how she had not seen the dog at all and ofcourse since I had seen it all I totally KNEW she was right.

All organizations are governed by the top management through some set rules and policies. Many of these rules / policies are written down, but an equally large number of these policies are not on paper; and even the senior management gets to learn of these, through the review meetings, dialogue and as an inference of certain decisions / actions.

The rules/policies take their birth and grow through a few routes:

a) Beliefs: Some are deeply rooted in the shareholder’s core beliefs, vision and values;

b) Experience: A large number of these policies are an outcome of the top management’s collective past experience, perception of environment and basic comfort with the risk-desires balance;

c) Industry mindset: Another set of policies stem from some current and past industry “norms” or practices. Though many of these are already included in the group “b”, but some of them are assumed to be so “fundamental” and “unquestionable” that even the top management do not state it and everyone accepts it;

d) Law: A fourth section of these rules / policies come from the statutory / regulatory requirements.

Petrol Prices Surge AGAIN! Print E-mail

So the petrol prices have gone up again and now its 50 bux a litre. Fantastic. Ill soon be pushing my car around and during the red lights sit in it. Once it becomes green again, I shall get off quickly and start pushing it around.

Mr Murli Deora has the profound insight to ask the question " Why should we subsidise petrol for people who are driving cars?"

Well Mr Murli Deora I have the answer for you.

1) We are the ones who pay TAXES with which you pay and receive your salaries.

2) We are not interested in paying for your common wealth games, Mrs Shiela Dixit , Please do not try and organise Olympics , we will all surely be bankrupt then.

3) Please feel free to cut your salaries, stamp out corruption and wastage and you will find that you have enough money to supply us free petrol for a decade.

I think Mr Deora is highly influenced by Robin hood but unfortunately mister minister, we are not rich so dont steal from us. We barely make enough to have a decent life and pay for TB bills(yes thats Tuberculosis which I have for last 3 years). We drive a car for the want of good public transport . Yes, I am waiting for the metro to start properly so that I can ride that and save selling my kidney in return of petrol but you see Mr Deora wont have to do that because the govt picks up his petrol tab whose money is encashed by US. YES WE the TAX PAYING PEOPLE, whom Mr. Deora does NOT want to subsidise.

I am overwhelmed with boredom. No its not that I don't have considerably huge amounts of work to do however I havent been able to game for last 5 months with the satisfaction that I usually do. My gaming card burnt up so I have installed a temporary card which can calculate only so many polygons and no more. Hence my best bet is to play a game from a decade back like counter strike or Natural Selection.

Weird Bible stuff Print E-mail

Some extreme things in the bible. I am sure you can find such things in each holy book of each religion. Goes to say how most of the holy books are absolute now that considering some 2000 years or more have been passed since you had written them.

Here is a partial list:

  • If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately. Deuteronomy 22:13-21
  • If a married person has sex with someone else’s husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death. Deuteronomy 22:22
  • Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced. Mark 10:1-12
  • The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman’s period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.Leviticus 18:19
  • If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir. Mark 12:18-27
  • If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy’s genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her. Deuteronomy 25:11-12
